Down by the river...

Bottle Doodle

Finally stopped being lazy and started shooting in RAW. Did some random doodling during the day with some sub-optimal lighting conditions. Just wanted to get something to tool around with on the computer. Here's the result. Currently seeking some inspiration for compositions and themes. I'll come up with some more coherent pieces soon.

The Tower

Here is an attempt at a piece I promised for a friend's Tarot art project. I chose to do the tower as I wanted to create a structure out of glass and light. I intend on revisiting this project on another night soon but I thought this result was worth sharing.

Tree Sketch

I've always liked taking pictures of trees.. I figured it was about time to sketch a good tree out of light. Here's my result.

Random doodles

I sat down the other day to do a light painting session without much intent or composition in mind. Just did some light doodling while trying out a couple of new things including putting coloured cellophane over the lens and some new glass objects. While my composition in these isn't anything too exciting, The colors are interesting to me.

I've also started adding a simple watermark to my images.

It begins...

I have long thought about creating a blog to talk about my exploration of visual art. Light painting has become my medium of choice over the years. I particularly enjoy utilizing it to create visually intense abstract works. My discovery of this style of photography was by accident as I'm sure it was for many. Soon enough my camera was getting waved at various sorts of lights and over the years I assembled a chaotic body of work that way.

In the past year I've sought to approach the medium in a more structured and serious way. I've been seeking to turn a dark room into my own personal canvas to paint over with flashlights and other various objects.

In this blog I'm going to explore various techniques to create interesting composition, texture and depth in my paintings. I hope to make something beautiful and exciting.
First up I'm going to share some examples of work I've done over the past year that represent various steps in discovering techniques I plan to take further. A digital sketchbook if you may.
